This blog is merely like a file in which I can assemble, in no particular order at this stage, images of my paintings (and possibly other ‘works’) as I choose them for the above exhibition. This is for my own benefit in the first place but any viewer may care to share with me the agony that any artist goes through in selecting his/her work for exhibition. In this case, I estimate about 20 paintings is the maximum that can be displayed.
A common question at this stage is, obviously, whether a particular painting is good enough to show? Another is, conversely, how can I possibly not select this one, even given the limitations of space to show not more than 10/20/30 whatever? Then, the rather more subtle questions, such as does this whole selection present a coherent body of work and/or is it representative of my best work (over the last year or the last 5 or 10 years?). And there are also the rather more pragmatic questions about suiting the venue, the promoters and the likely audience.
NB Most of the paintings are ‘landscape’ in shape whereas the thumbnail images are all square
As of the 28 July, the paintings were selected and hung in Halesworth Gallery, making this blog redundant. All 26 images are now displayed in my blog of 3 August above.
